Happy New Year! Every time the new year rolls around, I feel this immense pressure to set big, ambitious goals and become a better version of myself. But this year, I’m choosing to shift that mindset. While I believe in the importance of setting goals and striving to improve each day, I also recognize the weight of living in a world where we’re constantly comparing ourselves to the carefully curated images we see on social media.
Recently, I heard someone say, “There’s no perfect recipe for doing it all.” As a working mom, I can relate—on the days when my job is going well, my home life feels like it’s falling apart, and vice versa. I’ve come to realize that in order to combat this constant pressure, it’s essential to celebrate the small wins and—perhaps most importantly—give ourselves a whole lot of grace. Perfection is simply not sustainable, and it’s okay to embrace the mess along the way.
With that in mind, here’s my list of simple goals for 2025, in no particular order:
- Make my bed every day
- Sip my morning coffee a little slower
- Write down 10 things I’m grateful for and read that list every morning
- Step outside for a few minutes each day to breathe in some fresh air
- Laugh often, and laugh loud
- Hug my kids a little longer
- Leave the dishes in the sink–it’s okay!
- Prioritize quality time with my husband
What are your goals for 2025? I’d love to hear how you’re approaching this new year!
